Will you cover me whilst riding a motorcycle or scooter overseas?

Yes, we can cover you whilst riding a motorcycle or scooter under the conditions outlined below (see our PDS/Policy wording for more information).

If you want to hire and drive or ride (as a pillion passenger) on a motorcycle or scooter whilst travelling overseas, we can cover you provided you are able to meet the criteria as noted in the General Exclusions of the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) / Policy Wording.

Policy Wordings for New Zealand residents

When driving or riding a two-wheeled or three-wheeled motor vehicle regardless if petrol, electric or otherwise powered (including but not limited to; Motorcycles, Mopeds and Scooters, there is cover available if you can meet the below criteria:

1. if You are the driver
  1. You are wearing appropriate protective clothing and a helmet on Your head (this is irrespective of the law in the country You are in);
  2. You hold a current Australian motorcycle license valid for the same class of bike (if riding a Motorcycle);
  3. You hold a current Australian driver’s license (if riding a Scooter or Moped where no motorcycle license is required);
  4. You hold a valid license for the country that You are riding in;
  5. the engine capacity is no greater than 250cc (if You are riding a Motorcycle) and no greater than 150cc if You are riding a Scooter or Moped; and
  6. if electric powered, it has a maximum speed or is speed limited to 25 kilometres an hour or less.
2. if You are the passenger
  1. You are wearing appropriate protective clothing and a helmet on Your head (this is irrespective of the law in the country You are in);
  2. the driver holds a current motorcycle license valid for the same class of bike (if riding a Motorcycle);
  3. the driver holds a current driver’s license (if riding a Scooter or Moped where no motorcycle license is required);
  4. the driver holds a valid license for the country that You are riding in;
  5. the engine capacity is no greater than 250cc (if You are riding a Motorcycle) and no greater than 150cc if You are riding a Scooter or Moped; and
  6. if electric powered, it has a maximum speed or is speed limited to 25 kilometres an hour or less.
